"G’day Aussie!"

“G’day” Australia!

At the time of writing, I’ve just gotten back from an evening service at the local university church called “unechurch”. It’s at the University of New England campus, and has quite a fair turnout. It reminded me a lot of D-brief which for those of you who’ve attended D-brief, meant it was absolutely AWESOME! The pastor there, Gary, spoke about how there’s no need for people to go globe-trotting to “find themself” as your identity should truly be found in the Living Stone, the Cornerstone, GOD!(1Peter 2:4) (It was a lot deeper when he said it hehe)

DEPARTURE

See how happy everyone was to see me go…mhhmmmm

I left Zim on the 21st of February, and from the picture above, it’s safe to assume it was a happy farewell, I flew Emirates from Harare>Lusaka>Dubai. It was my first time leaving the continent, (except for the times I swam a few meters into the Cape town and Durban beaches…LOL) The air hostesses were definitely on point, and I remember thinking to myself for almost half of my 11hr flight, how I was going to successfully secure a selfie with one of them(wink wink). After much thought, as soon as we landed in Dubai, I patiently waited for everyone to jump off, then bam! OPPORTUNITY!!I grasped the opportunity with one hand and my phone with the other, as I approached the dashing miss.Emirates asking if she would grace my selfie, She said yes blushingly! *(and that my friends, is how it’s done 🙂 )

ijust love the uniform!
when will I see you again…(singing)
Eventually I arrived in Dubai, the first person I requested assistance from asked me what country I was from. Inevitably I responded “Zimbabwe” and to my pleasant surprise, she said, “Zvirisei!?”(hows’t going in Shona), and there I thought I was out of Zim haha! It was pretty smooth sailing from there and between admiring the architecture and boarding trains to other flight gates, all was on track for Sydney!
you could literally fit Harare airport in this one terminal 3times!

From my previous experiences on various airlines, I noticed that air-hostesses were generally young. However the ones on Qantas proved to be quite the contrary!! Not that it’s really of any significance, but there definitely ceases to be any incentive to ask for a selfie haha! The flight was 13hrs in total, during which time I ate more times than I had the previous 3 days!!Towards the end we received these little immigration cards which had a statement I found all too interesting…

Were you in Africa… in the last 6days?

Whilst I knew they weren’t asking this question out of just pure interest, I never expected my residing in Africa meant I’d have to go through a RED ROUTE!! Which really just meant my entry into Aus would be in the hands, or nose rather, of some bio-dog which sniffed the paint off my luggage! As if my bag coming out of the carousel last wasn’t enough stress!!

Thereafter I flew off to Armidale where I would be welcomed by 2other gappies, Kenny from Kenya, Piers from Switzerland and the deputy head of my host school, THE ARMIDALE SCHOOL. I quickly became acquainted with all the other gappies, (George and Johnny from the UK and David from Sydney) I even got a cap as a welcome prezzie!

My duties only begin tomorrow(Monday 29th) as I have spent the past week getting all my ducks in a row, new sim, bank a/c etc.. I look forward to writing next week and letting you all know wassup!

P.S- If you’re a snapper on snapchat and want to see some stuff as it happens, follow me at @nesu4jesu as I regularly snap what’s happening!

A lekker pic i got of the Sydney Opera house from the plane!

All good wishes,
Nesu4Jesu
